UDAN carries 1.72 Cr passengers, connects 687 regional routes in 10 years: Samrat

Patna, Oct 23 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary Friday said the Centre's UDAN regional connectivity scheme had facilitated air travel for 1.72 crore passengers and operationalised 687 regional routes over the past decade.
Choudhary highlighted the achievements of the scheme, saying it had improved connectivity, accelerated regional development, and opened up new avenues for employment and economic growth.
According to the data shared by the Chief Minister, 95 airports, airstrips and water aerodromes were operationalised under the scheme between 2016 and 2026. More than 3.68 lakh flights were also operated during the period.
Choudhary said the scheme had helped connect smaller cities and underserved regions with major destinations, making air travel more accessible and providing passengers with additional transport options.
The revised UDAN scheme for 2026-36 envisages an expenditure of Rs 28,840 crore, including plans to develop 100 airports and provide financial assistance of Rs 10,043 crore to support regional aviation services, according to the details shared by him.
The initiative aims to extend air connectivity to underserved areas and encourage the operation of regional flight routes.
The Chief Minister said improved air connectivity could facilitate access to specialised healthcare, strengthen market links for businesses and farmers, and make tourist and pilgrimage destinations more accessible.
It could also promote regional tourism and generate employment opportunities, he added.
Choudhary said the scheme had contributed to inclusive development by linking smaller cities with wider economic opportunities and strengthening regional aviation across the country.
