Union DoNER Minister Scindia calls for expediting key projects

Imphal, Apr 17 (UNI) Union Minister for Communications and Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), Jyotiraditya M. Scindia presented a comprehensive review of the status of various projects currently underway in Manipur during a review meeting with Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, at Raj Bhavan, Imphal on Thursday.
Scindia highlighted several areas that require attention for the development of the state. The projects included handicrafts and handloom, sports, tourism, international trade, agriculture—particularly palm oil farming in the region, logistics, and the development of national highways. He also directed officials present at the meeting to accelerate the pace of key infrastructure projects such as universities, Manipur IT-SEZ, mental hospital, maternity and child hospital, etc.
Scindia along with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla also chaired a meeting of the High-Level Task Force on Sports for the North Eastern Region. The Chief Minister of Mizoram, Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, the Additional Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, and Joint Secretary of the Department of Sports joined the meeting via video conferencing.
Various initiatives aimed at developing the region’s sports sector were discussed. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia highlighted several areas that require special attention, such as talent identification, training and coaching, establishment of coaching centres, promotion of public-private partnerships, infrastructure development, and increased focus on women in sports.
Chief Secretary of Manipur, Secretary to the Governor, Secretary – MDoNER, PCCF, Principal Secretary, Commissioners and other senior officials attended the meeting.
