Union Home Secretary reviews security preparedness for Amarnath Yatra in Srinagar

Srinagar, June 17 (UNI) Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan today chaired a high-level meeting here to review the security preparedness for the upcoming annual Amarnath Yatra, set to begin on July 3.

The meeting was attended by top civil and security officials of Jammu and Kashmir, including Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, General Officer Commanding (GoC) of Srinagar based 15 Corps Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava, and senior officers from intelligence agencies.

Although there was no official statement issued after the meeting, sources said the review focused on the overall security arrangements for the Yatra, with special emphasis on coordination among the Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

A multi-tiered security setup has been put in place along both routes to the holy cave shrine —Pahalgam and Baltal —as well as at base camps, transit camps, and along the convoy route from Jammu.

According to sources, the Union Home Secretary instructed officials to ensure that the pilgrimage is conducted peacefully and that the safety and comfort of devotees remain top priority. He stressed the need for seamless coordination between security forces and intelligence agencies throughout the Yatra.

Senior officers from the Jammu and Kashmir administration provided a comprehensive briefing on the elaborate preparations being made to facilitate the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.

The enhanced security comes in the wake of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 25 tourists and a local resident. Each year, thousands of devotees undertake the arduous journey to pay obeisance at the cave shrine nestled in the Himalayas. UNI MJR SSP
