UP: Azam Khan sent to 14-day judicial custody in money laundering case after arrest following jail release

Ghaziabad, Nov 1 (UNI) Samajwadi Party leader Mohammad Azam Khan was on Sunday remanded in 14-day judicial custody by a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court here, a day after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him shortly after his release from Rampur jail.
Following the court's order, Khan was taken to Dasna Jail, where he will remain in judicial custody.
The ED produced Khan before the special PMLA court at around 10.30 am.
Khan appeared calm when he arrived at the court premises and briefly looked at people gathered there. When mediapersons asked him whether he had anything to say, he replied, "What's left to say?"
The ED arrested the SP leader on Saturday evening in connection with a 2019 money laundering case, immediately after he walked out of Rampur jail. He was subsequently taken by road to the agency's headquarters in Delhi, where he was kept overnight for questioning.
During his interrogation, the ED questioned him at length over alleged misuse of government funds in the construction of Jauhar Ali University in Rampur. He was reportedly asked more than 50 questions as part of the investigation into alleged financial irregularities.
Khan was released from Rampur jail after the Allahabad High Court suspended his 10-year sentence in two PAN card-related cases on October 29.
