Dehradun, June 26 (UNI) A tempo traveller plunged into the Alaknanda river near Gholthir on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand this morning.
So far one body has been recovered while many injured have been sent to the hospital.
Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and administration teams have reached the spot.
SDRF commander Arpan Yaduvanshi stated that upon receiving information about the accident in Rudraprayag district, police and SDRF teams from Agastyamuni, Ratuda, and Gochar police stations were promptly dispatched to the scene.
He said that according to preliminary information, the vehicle was going up from Rudraprayag, which went out of control and fell into the river.
Rescue teams promptly initiated relief and rescue operations, successfully extracting some injured individuals and transporting them to the hospital for treatment. Search and rescue operation is continuing.
SDF chief Arpan Yaduvanshi said teams of SDRF, police force and local administration are engaged in relief work in a coordinated manner.
The entire operation is being conducted under the supervision of senior officers. Yaduvanshi has urged people to remain patient and refrain from believing any unverified information.
