Vehicle fell into Alaknanda river, one body found

Dehradun, June 26 (UNI) A tempo traveller plunged into the Alaknanda river near Gholthir on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand this morning.

Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and administration teams have reached the spot. So far one body has been recovered. While many injured have been sent to the hospital.



SDRF commander Arpan Yaduvanshi stated that upon receiving information about a tempo traveller vehicle plunging into a deep gorge in the Gholthir area of Rudraprayag district, police and SDRF teams from Agastyamuni, Ratuda, and Gochar police stations were promptly dispatched to the scene.



He said that according to preliminary information, the vehicle was going up from Rudraprayag, which went out of control and fell into the river.

Rescue teams promptly initiated relief and rescue operations, successfully extracting some injured individuals and transporting them to the hospital for treatment. Additionally, the body of one person has been recovered, while the search and rescue operation for others continues.



Shri Yaduvanshi said that teams of SDRF, police force and local administration are engaged in relief work in a coordinated manner at the site of the incident.

The entire operation is being conducted under the supervision of senior officers. He has urged the general public to remain patient and to refrain from believing any misleading or unverified information.
