Hanoi, May 25 (UNI) A memorial service for former Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong was held on Sunday morning at the National Funeral Hall in capital Hanoi, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The ceremony was attended by top Vietnamese leaders, including General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam, President Luong Cuong and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
Foreign state and party leaders from Laos and Cambodia also paid their respects.
Parallel services were held in Ho Chi Minh City and the late president's hometown in central Quang Ngai province.
In his funeral oration, Luong Cuong praised Tran Duc Luong's lifelong dedication to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, describing him as a highly respected leader and a shining example of learning and following President Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics and style.
Following the ceremony, a hearse carrying the national flag-draped coffin departed the National Funeral Hall, passing through the streets of Hanoi before heading to Noi Bai International Airport.
From there, it was transported to Quang Ngai for the burial service later in the afternoon.
