Waqf law not against Muslims: Pralhad Joshi

Bengaluru, Apr 14 (UNI) Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Monday asserted that the Waqf Act is not aimed against Muslims, but is intended to protect Waqf properties, generate revenue, and serve the welfare of poor Muslims.
"The Act is not against Muslims; it is meant to protect Waqf properties, generate more revenue, and serve poor Muslims," Joshi told reporters, responding to Karnataka Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan's remarks on the legislation.
Joshi accused Zameer of engaging in vote bank politics and attempting to mislead the public for political gain. "These leaders try to fool the people, but the people are intelligent. This is a law passed by Parliament – just like the 1995 and 2013 Acts. Zameer is speaking without understanding, simply to appease his vote bank," he said.
He pointed out that senior leaders, including the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, have clearly stated that the amendments are not discriminatory. "My party colleagues and leaders have made it clear through public statements that this legislation is for the benefit of the community, not to harm it," he said.
The Union Minister further criticised attempts in Karnataka to arbitrarily claim various properties as Waqf land. "Leaders like Zameer are putting a finger on every property and declaring it untouchable. This kind of misuse must stop," he said.
Joshi also alleged that former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were backing such misleading narratives. "It is not just Zameer. Others in the Congress party are also encouraging these claims to create confusion," he charged.
