Zelenskyy calls for new sanctions against Moscow after Russia-Ukraine talks

Moscow, May 17 (UNI) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on Saturday for further sanctions against Moscow, following the talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul held the day before.
On Friday, Russian and Ukrainian delegations held the first in-person meeting in three years in Istanbul. Following the talks, the parties agreed to a large-scale 1,000 for 1,000 prisoner exchange. The head of Russian delegation, presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, said that Moscow and Kiev agreed to present their visions of a possible future ceasefire. The Ukrainian side also requested a meeting of the heads of state which Russia took notice of. Medinsky also said Russia was ready to continue negotiations with Ukraine.
"Without stronger sanctions, without stronger pressure on Russia, they will not seek real diplomacy ... We expect strong sanctions against Russia from the United States, Europe and all our partners," Zelenskyy said on Telegram.
On May 10, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told CNN that putting pressure on Russia to settle the Ukraine conflict is useless.
