Adivi Sesh urges Assam government to protect Kaziranga and endangered one-horned rhinos

Mumbai, Oct 14 (UNI) Actor and writer Adivi Sesh has appealed to the Assam government to review the reported approval for a resort on land linked to the Kaziranga National Park, warning that construction in the ecologically sensitive area could threaten wildlife and disrupt the lives of nearby communities.
Sesh stated in his letter that Kaziranga is renowned for its rich biodiversity and large population of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros. It is an important natural heritage of India, and everyone has a responsibility to protect it. He expressed concern about the potential impact of construction and commercial activities in environmentally sensitive areas on wildlife habitats, their movement routes, and ecological balance.
The 40-year-old actor said, "Nature doesn't belong to us; we are merely its caretakers for a while. When we talk about a place like Kaziranga, we're not just talking about a national park or a tourist destination, but about a vibrant ecosystem that has existed for generations. It's home to unique wildlife and our natural heritage, a right every Indian has, and in many ways, a global heritage."
He said that the one-horned rhinoceros is not only the identity of Assam but also a symbol of the country's rich biodiversity. Habitat loss, wildlife movement disruption, and permanent environmental changes can cause irreparable damage to the ecological balance. While acknowledging the benefits of tourism to employment and the local economy, he said that development plans should be made with a long-term vision.
He advocated for sustainable tourism, saying its objective should be to experience and preserve nature without harming it, rather than altering the natural beauty and environment that makes a place special.
The "Major" actor emphasised the interests of local communities, saying that the livelihoods, traditions, and lives of people living around Kaziranga for generations are deeply intertwined with nature. Therefore, their voices, experiences, and concerns must be included in decisions affecting their surrounding environment. UNI NST RN
