Argentine President Javier Milei slams UN at General Assembly session, calls it a ‘useless organisation’ serving ‘arrogant parasites’

New York, Sep 23 (UNI) Argentine President Javier Milei slammed the UN in a scathing address delivered to the body’s General Assembly on Wednesday, calling it a “useless organisation” that serves “a caste of arrogantly arrogant parasites”.
Milei, one of US President Donald Trump’s closest allies in Latin America and a vocal supporter of Israel, has repeatedly criticised the UN, bitterly critiquing what he described as its “interventionist” and “woke” agenda.
In his speech, he accused the organisation of failing to fulfil its role in protecting collective security and human rights, saying it had instead allowed “chaos, violence and international terrorism” to grow.
“The United Nations has become a useless organisation, serving only to feed a caste of fatally arrogant parasites disguised as well-intentioned bureaucrats,” Milei said.
He also criticised what he described as the UN’s failure to act on Argentina’s claim to sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, known in Argentina as the Islas Malvinas and administered by the UK.
“Those who follow the rules receive no reward for doing so, while those who break them face no repercussions whatsoever,” Milei said. He argued that the dispute raised questions about the UN’s ability to enforce its own resolutions.
Argentina and the UK fought a war over the islands in 1982, which Britain won, though Buenos Aires continues to claim sovereignty over the territory, while the UK maintains control.
He accused the organization of “looking the other way” on Argentina’s claim to the Falkland Islands, a British overseas territory which Argentines refer to as Las Malvinas and claim as part of their land.
Argentina has accused Britain of flouting a UN resolution ordering both parties to desist from unilateral action in the islands, over which the two countries fought a war in 1982.
“Those who follow the rules receive no reward for doing so, while those who break them face no repercussions whatsoever,” Milei reiterated.
Milei’s criticism comes as his government has stepped up its campaign over the Falklands, including moves this month to strengthen sanctions against companies involved in resource extraction around the islands.
