Similar late-night services have been announced in the down direction. All special EMUs will stop at every station along their routes to facilitate passenger boarding and alighting, a railway official said.
The division has also announced that all suburban services, including AC EMU locals, will run according to the weekday timetable on November 8. The Sealdah–Krishnanagar City–Sealdah AC EMU locals (train nos. 31845/31846), which usually operate from Monday to Saturday, will also run on Sunday.
The Sealdah Division recorded passenger footfall of more than 2.6 crore during the peak days of Durga Puja, an increase of around 33 per cent from the previous year. A significant rise in passenger numbers was recorded at stations including Sealdah, Dum Dum, Bidhannagar Road, Sonarpur, Ballygunge, Ranaghat, Naihati and Kalyani.
Anticipating a similar rush during Kali Puja, the division has made special arrangements at Naihati station. To prevent congestion, no trains will operate from platform no. 1 between 2 pm and midnight from November 8 to 13.
