CBSE holds Talkathon on drug abuse, students raise questions on mental health, peer pressure

New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Sunday organised a 45-minute interactive Talkathon on “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat”, bringing together students, educators and experts to discuss drug abuse, addiction and ways to promote healthier choices among young people.
The initiative followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call on August 2 for a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” by eliminating the menace of drugs and intoxicants.
The Talkathon was designed to provide students with a direct platform to raise concerns and seek guidance on substance abuse and related issues through social media platforms, including X, Instagram and YouTube.
CBSE had invited questions from students using the hashtags #NashaMuktYuva and #CBSETalkathon, with several queries being taken up during the live interaction.
The expert panel comprised Prof (Dr) Nand Kumar, Department of Psychiatry, AIIMS, New Delhi; Alka Awasthi, Principal, Mayoor School, Noida; and Dr Anees C, Additional Director, Narcotics Control Bureau, New Delhi.
Questions from youngsters covered issues including the impact of substance abuse on mental health, ways to deal with peer pressure, and measures that can help individuals overcome addiction and access de-addiction support.
The programme was hosted by two Class XII students, Samiya of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sector 4, R K Puram, Delhi, and Rohit Singh of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 3, Delhi Cantt.
The CBSE said the initiative was aimed at strengthening awareness among children and young adults, who would form the next generation responsible for carrying forward the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
