Delhi Police IFSO team extends swift aid in preventive action for senior citizen in digital fraud

New Delhi, Sept 21 (UNI) The pro-active victim identification and protection team of the Delhi Police's Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit on Monday took immediate preventive action, ensuring timely assistance to a vulnerable senior citizen in West Delhi.
The present instance of preventive policing stems from the probe into a case related to a digital arrest fraud reported on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), where in the scam amounted to around Rs 67,30,300, that took place on Sunday.
During analysis of the money trail, the IFSO team, identified a layer-one mule account held with a private bank, in the name of a private limited company located in Nagori, Karnataka. Further analysis of the fund flow into this confirmed the mule account, which led to identification of a savings account held with another bank, as one of the funding sources of the confirmed mule account.
It was assessed that the account could be either, a second mule account controlled by the fraudsters, or a bank account belonging to another victim, who is still unaware of the fraud being committed, and is gullibly transferring funds in the confirmed mule account of the private bank.
Based on the characteristics of the account and subscriber details, the source bank account was identified to a genuine citizen's, who could be a victim of cyber fraud, and was further traced to a residential address in West Delhi's Janakpuri.
he IFSO team immediately contacted the person concerned, who was found to be a senior citizen, and recognising the urgency, the team promptly coordinated with the Station House Officer, Janakpuri, and his family, providing immediate assistance.
Accordingly, a complaint was registered and further legal action, such as automatic registration of e-FIR and tracking of defrauded money for putting it on hold, was promptly initiated.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police reiterates that “Digital Arrest” has no basis in law, and no police, CBI, ED, Customs, Court or any other government agency will ever place a citizen under “digital arrest”, conduct video-call interrogations, or demand money to “verify” or “clear” a person.
