Bengaluru, Oct 27 (UNI) Gleneagles BGS Hospital in Bengaluru has brought together over 100 bike riders, including nearly 20 former patients treated for spine-related conditions, for a bikeathon to raise awareness about spine health and the importance of timely medical care.
The event, titled ‘Spine Up. Ride On.’, was organised as part of the observance of World Spine Day. The ride was flagged off from Bangalore Town Hall and covered the route from Freedom Park to Gleneagles BGS Hospital in Kengeri.
The participation of former patients who had undergone treatment for spine-related ailments highlighted the importance of recovery, physical activity and continued attention to spinal health, the hospital said.
The initiative aimed to encourage people to adopt an active lifestyle, maintain proper posture and seek medical advice for persistent back pain and other symptoms associated with spinal disorders.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Naveen M A, Head of Department and Senior Consultant, Minimal Access Brain and Spine Surgery at Gleneagles BGS Hospital, said people often ignored spine health until the symptoms began affecting their daily activities.
Persistent back pain, numbness or weakness should not be overlooked, as early medical attention could help identify the underlying problem and guide appropriate treatment, he said.
Regular exercise, an active lifestyle and proper posture were among the measures that could help people maintain spinal health, he added.
Ravi Bagali, Chief Operating Officer of Gleneagles BGS Hospital, said healthcare extended beyond treatment within hospital premises, with public awareness and preventive measures playing an important role in promoting healthier lives.
The hospital would continue to organise community initiatives to educate people about health issues and encourage timely medical intervention, he said.
The event was also attended by Dr Santhosh Sa, Senior Consultant in Neurosurgery; Dr Keshav G C, Consultant in Neurosurgery; and Dr Shridhar G, Associate Consultant in Neurosurgery at the hospital. UNI BDN SS BM
