IBM And MeitY Join Hands To Support Deep Tech Startups Across India

Mumbai, Oct 13 (UNI) IBM and the MeitY Startup Hub (MSH), an initiative of the union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen India's deep technology startup ecosystem through access to advanced technologies, mentorship, technical training and commercial opportunities.
The partnership will combine MSH's nationwide innovation network with IBM's expertise in artificial intelligence, hybrid cloud and quantum computing, helping startups develop, validate and scale solutions for domestic and international markets. It will also complement IBM Ventures' existing engagements by connecting enterprise technology startups with customers, investors and industry specialists.
Under the agreement, startups will receive technical guidance on IBM watsonx, its enterprise AI and data platform; IBM Bob, an AI coding agent; and IBM Sovereign Core, an AI-ready software stack supporting digital sovereignty. The initiative will also cover hybrid cloud, quantum computing, cybersecurity and automation technologies.
Both organisations will explore programmes involving enterprise proof-of-concept projects, sovereign AI development, open-source innovation, founder mentorship, technical skilling and opportunities to present solutions to potential customers and investors. The collaboration will support startups at different growth stages across banking, finance, government and industrial sectors, with particular emphasis on innovators from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
MSH Chief Executive Officer Dr Panneerselvam Madanagopal said the initiative would strengthen indigenous technological capabilities, encourage entrepreneurship and support India's Viksit Bharat objectives.
IBM India and South Asia Managing Director Sandip Patel said the partnership would help founders accelerate innovation, expand responsibly and develop solutions addressing national and global challenges.
The agreement builds on IBM's existing collaborations with founders, developers, academic institutions and startup ecosystem partners. Through its capital-plus investment model, IBM Ventures supports enterprise technology companies with investment capital, technical expertise and access to global networks.
IBM provides hybrid cloud, AI and consulting services across more than 175 countries, serving governments and businesses in sectors including finance, telecommunications and healthcare. Its technology portfolio includes Red Hat OpenShift, quantum computing and industry-specific cloud solutions.
