Iran to start blocking "illegal routes" through Strait of Hormuz

Tehran, Oct 7 (UNI) Iran will soon start blocking what it called "illegal routes" through the Strait of Hormuz, a senior adviser from the IRGC said on Wednesday, hours after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Tehran had "lost complete control" of the strategic waterway.
Brig Gen Mohammad Reza Naqdi, a senior adviser to the IRGC commander-in-chief, reiterated Iran's position that the strait remains closed and said Iranian armed forces have "full control" over it. He added that that waterway's effective blockade would continue until Tehran's "legitimate demands" are met.
Earlier on Wednesday, Rubio said the strait was open to commercial vessels and that Iran had "lost complete control" of the waterway.
"The Straits of Hormuz are open. There's almost as much oil flowing out now as there was before this conflict began. So, they've lost complete control of the straits," Rubio told reporters during a visit to Greece.
Maritime tracking firm Kpler said oil exports from the region surpassed pre-war levels last week despite continued attacks on ships in the strait. Shell CEO also said on Tuesday that oil flows from West Asia had recovered to around 80% of pre-war levels.
Naqdi acknowledged that some oil was being transported through the strait despite Iran's objections, but said the volume was minimal and did not mean the waterway was open.
He claimed unnamed parties had used explosives to clear new routes through previously impassable areas, allowing some oil shipments to pass. Those routes, he said, would be blocked "in the near future".
