Jaiswal's ton powers India A to strong start in third unofficial Test

Lincoln, Nov 7 (UNI) Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his rich vein of form with another century as India A took complete control of the third unofficial Test against New Zealand A on the opening day in Lincoln on Saturday.
Following his unbeaten 155 in the previous match in Christchurch, Jaiswal struck 102, while Sai Sudharsan remained unbeaten on 77 as the duo put together a commanding 175-run opening partnership. India A reached 234/2 before rain brought an early end to proceedings during the 70th over.
India A were asked to bat after losing the toss, extending their poor run in that department. The visitors made several changes to their playing XI, bringing in Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Prasidh Krishna as part of their preparations for the two-Test series against New Zealand, which begins on November 19.
With the new ball offering some assistance to the seamers, Jaiswal and Sudharsan adopted a cautious approach initially but did not miss opportunities to score. Jaiswal frequently stepped out of his crease to counter the movement, and once he had settled in, began to put pressure on the bowlers.
He found his rhythm after negotiating the opening hour, collecting three boundaries off a Jarrod McKay over. Despite New Zealand A keeping things tight, India A went into lunch without losing a wicket.
Jaiswal had a few close calls early in the second session, being beaten three times while approaching his half-century. He soon brought up the milestone with a boundary, but was given a reprieve when Matthew Boyle dropped a straightforward catch at slip with the batter on 54.
The left-hander made the most of the opportunity, hitting three consecutive fours before launching Zak Gibson for a six. While Jaiswal accelerated, Sudharsan continued to build his innings patiently, reaching his fifty off 129 deliveries.
Jaiswal was in a more attacking mood and brought up his century in just 127 balls with back-to-back boundaries. He briefly required attention from the physio, apparently due to cramps, before his innings ended at 102 when he chipped a delivery to mid-off.
The scoring slowed after tea as Devdutt Padikkal took time to settle alongside Sudharsan, who remained solid at the other end. Padikkal was beaten a couple of times before McKay found his outside edge with a drive, sending him back for 15.
Skipper Dhruv Jurel got off the mark with a boundary, but rain arrived nine deliveries after the drinks break and prevented any further play. Danru Ferns was the most economical of the New Zealand A bowlers, conceding just 16 runs in his 10 overs while also accounting for Jaiswal's wicket.
Brief Scores: India A 227/2 (Yashasvi Jaiswal 102, Sai Sudharsan 77 not out; Danru Ferns 1/16, Jarrod McKay 1/45) vs New Zealand A.
