Marathi film 'Gondhal' will represent India at Oscars 2026: Abhay Sinha

Mumbai, Sep 18 (UNI) Marathi-language film 'Gondhal' has been selected as India’s official entry for the 2026 Academy Awards in the International Feature Film category, the Film Federation of India (FFI) announced.
Abhay Sinha, President of the Film Federation of India and IMPA, stated that the film will represent India in the International Feature Film category of the Academy Awards. He congratulated the entire team of the Marathi film "Gondhal" on being selected as India's official entry for the Oscars 2026. He stated that this is a proud moment for Marathi cinema as well as the entire Indian film industry.
He wished the entire team a bright future and expressed hope that "Gondhal" will strongly showcase India's cinematic talent on the international stage.
Sinha stated that the Marathi film "Gondhal" was selected by the Film Federation of India's selection committee for the Oscars 2026. This committee comprised 14 members from various fields of the Indian film industry. Renowned filmmaker P. Seshadri was appointed as the chairman of the committee. The committee included directors, actors, producers, cinematographers, editors and other experienced people from the film industry.
The nearly two-hour-long Marathi film "Gondhal" was selected from among the films submitted to the Film Federation of India for Oscar consideration. While details about the film's story and subject matter were not shared in the announcement, the official selection has certainly piqued audience curiosity.
It is noteworthy that two Biharis also played an important role in this proud moment. While the President of the Film Federation of India is Abhay Sinha, its Vice President is Nishant Ujjwal from Patna.
Nishant Ujjwal, Vice President of the Film Federation of India, said that we hope that the Marathi film "Gondhal", selected by the jury as India's official Oscar entry, will bring Oscar glory to the country.
He informed that a total of 33 films were submitted for the Oscars this year, including 14 Hindi films. Nishant Ujjwal said that 'Gondhaal' is a charming musical story set against the backdrop of a beautiful village in Maharashtra. The story and presentation of the film are very impressive and commendable.
