Nepal’s pro-monarchy party RPP demands resignation of Home Minister over city violence

Kathmandu, Apr 3 (UNI) The pro-monarchy Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) of Nepal has demanded an investigation into the "repression" of the protest in Tinkune, Kathmandu, on March 28, as well as the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak for his actions against pro-monarchy protesters, which included media censorship, and violent police crackdown on protesters and journalists.
The protests and arson led to the deaths of two people and injuries to over 30 in clashes with security forces.

Submitting a memorandum to Acting Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh asking for Lekhak’s resignation, the pro-monarchy party’s Chairman Rajendra Lingden, along with senior leader Pashupati Shamsher Rana and others further demanded an independent inquiry commission led by a Supreme Court judge to investigate the violent clashes that took place during the royalist protest at Singha Durbar, according to Nepal News.
The five demands include ‘Formation of an independent investigation commission comprising a former Supreme Court judge and a Human Rights Commission’ and ‘Resignation of the Home Minister for investigation, suspension of the police chief and administrative leadership who led the crackdown on Chaitra 15’.
