Netanyahu accuses Iran of resuming efforts to develop nukes, reiterates calls for toppling regime

Beersheba, Oct 21 (UNI) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Iran of resuming efforts to develop nuclear weapons, saying the country’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is following in his father’s footsteps.
“The Iranian regime still has not learned its lesson. Mojtaba Khamenei decided to follow in his father’s footsteps. He has taken off the safety, and Iran is once again trying to develop its weapons of death,” Netanyahu said at a graduation ceremony for IDF officers at the Bahad 1 military school in southern Israel.
“Therefore, there is only one way to remove this threat once and for all, to topple the regime in Iran, and that is my directive to the IDF, the Mossad and the security agencies,” he added.
Defence Minister Israel Katz, speaking at the ceremony, warned Iran and its regional allies against attempting attacks during Israel’s elections next week.
“In recent days, we have identified attempts by our enemies, foremost among them Iran and its proxies, to carry out terror attacks that would affect the results of the elections in Israel,” Katz said.
He described the Iranian government as being at its weakest point, warning that its vulnerability could prompt it to take extreme measures, including against Israel.
“Our message to the Iranian regime is clear: We are identifying your attempts, we are prepared to thwart them, and we are ready to strike you with full force,” Katz said. “If Iran attacks Israel, Iran will burn!”
IDF Chief of Staff Lt Gen Eyal Zamir also addressed the graduating officers, stressing the importance of unity within the military amid ongoing efforts to recruit members of Israel’s ultra-Orthodox community, many of whom do not enlist.
“The mission of defending the State of Israel is shared by all of us and is greater than any disagreement. The IDF is the people’s army, and unity within it is essential to its strength,” Zamir said.
