Omani co-pilot who stabbed Captain Smit Machchhar onboard FlyDubai flight discussed killing jews on social media

Jerusalem, Oct 1 (UNI) The Omani co-pilot who stabbed Captain Smit Machchhar aboard the FlyDubai passenger flight reportedly discussed killing Jews on social media, an Israeli official told The Times of Israel.
The official said the co-pilot had also asked Emirati crew members to kill him, citing accounts from passengers on the flight. The official described the suspect as someone willing to take his own life and alleged that his social media accounts showed signs of an Islamist mindset and a tilt towards jihadist ideology.
"We can't say for sure until the investigation's over, but it certainly seems like he was a suicide actor who was probably going to try to down that plane," the official said.
The official added that the suspect was expected to be transferred to the UAE, where Israeli authorities would participate in the investigation. Israel is also conducting an internal inquiry and reviewing its security procedures following the incident.
Passengers who intervened to restrain the co-pilot told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that they initially could not rule out the possibility that other crew members were involved in the alleged attack.
In a video released by Netanyahu's office, the passengers said they had insisted that the co-pilot communicate with the crew in English so they could understand what was being said.
"We tried to simply maintain control over the situation, because we couldn't trust anyone," one passenger said.
Netanyahu responded to their account by describing the uncertainty surrounding the crew's involvement as "very interesting".
The co-pilot was accused of stabbing the captain during a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, forcing the aircraft to make an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities have yet to establish a definitive motive.
