Rajput's ton in vain as Zahoor steers Pakistan past India in U19 Asia Cup

Al Amerat, Nov 8 (UNI) Hamza Zahoor struck a magnificent unbeaten century to overshadow Arjun Rajput's spectacular hundred as Pakistan Under-19 defeated India by three wickets in a thrilling Group A encounter of the ACC Men's Under-19 Asia Cup 2026 here on Sunday, moving to the top of the group standings.
Chasing 209 for victory, Pakistan reached 209 for seven in 48.1 overs, with Zahoor remaining unbeaten on 100 off 108 balls, including 10 fours and three sixes. He sealed the victory in style by driving Kavya Patel through the extra-cover region for a boundary, sparking celebrations among the Pakistan players and supporters.
The win gave Pakistan four points from two matches, taking them to the top of Group A with an unbeaten record and a net run rate of 0.746.
India slipped to second place with two points from two matches and a net run rate of 1.439, while the UAE also had two points but were placed third with a net run rate of 0.203. Nepal remained fourth without a point after two defeats.
Pakistan's victory was built around Zahoor's remarkable composure after the side slumped to 61 for five. He joined Hasnain Abbas Dar and stitched together a match-defining 107-run partnership for the sixth wicket to rescue the chase.
Zahoor brought up his half-century in the 31st over and gradually accelerated, mixing controlled strokes with calculated aggression. Dar contributed 38 off 67 balls before his dismissal in the 38th over, caught by Rajput off Manal Chauhan.
Mohammad Sayyam's dismissal for four, with Pakistan still needing 26 runs, added further tension. However, Zahoor remained unfazed, finding boundaries off Mohit Ulva and Kavya Patel before completing his century and taking Pakistan home.
For India, Manal Chauhan was the most successful bowler with three wickets for 32 runs, while Mohit Ulva claimed two. Ishan Sood and Kavya Patel took one wicket each.
Earlier, India, after winning the toss and opting to bat, were bowled out for 208 in 46.3 overs, largely owing to Rajput's outstanding 107 off 85 deliveries, studded with 11 fours and five sixes.
India suffered an early setback when Lakshya Raichandani was bowled by Ali Raza for a duck. VK Vineeth (8) and Yashbardhan Chauhan (1) also departed cheaply, leaving India struggling at 22 for three.
Aaryavir Sehwag made 22 before being caught off Niqab Shafiq, leaving India further troubled at 42 for four.
Rajput then launched a spectacular counterattack, rebuilding the innings while maintaining an impressive scoring rate. His century came off 82 balls, completed with a single off Farhan Yousaf in the 33rd over.
He found support in Anvay Dravid (10) and Manal Chauhan (11), but Rajput's dismissal at 170 for seven proved a major setback. He was caught by Pakistan captain Farhan Yousaf off Rizwanullah in the 36th over.
Kavya Patel contributed 23 towards the end, but India continued losing wickets and folded for 208. Pakistan's bowling attack was led by Ali Raza, Rizwanullah and Niqab Shafiq, who claimed three wickets each, while Mohammad Sayyam took one.
Pakistan will next face Nepal on November 10, while India take on the UAE on the same day in their final Group A fixtures.
