Sikkim CM stresses preservation of traditional sporting heritage

Siliguri, Sep 29 (UNI) Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang stressed the need to promote and preserve the state’s traditional sporting heritage, saying indigenous sports play an important role in keeping cultural traditions alive.
Tamang was speaking after attending the first Governor’s Archery Gold Cup at Tathangchen in the presence of Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur.
Describing archery as more than a sport, the Chief Minister said it represents discipline, patience, precision, concentration and strength of character.
He said that in a culturally rich state like Sikkim, promoting traditional sporting practices was as important as nurturing modern sporting talent.
According to Tamang, such sporting platforms provide young people an opportunity to remain connected with their roots while developing sporting excellence.
He congratulated the winning team, Green Tara, and extended his best wishes to all participating teams for their performances and sportsmanship.
He called for continued efforts to ensure that Sikkim’s sporting heritage is carried forward to future generations.
