Syria's Quneitra governor urges UN to document Israeli violations

Damascus, Oct 17 (UNI) The governor of Syria's southern Quneitra province on Saturday called on the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) to monitor and document Israeli violations in the area.
Ghassan al-Sayyed Ahmad made the appeal during a meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix, according to the Quneitra Governorate.
Moreover, Damascus has called on Israel to withdraw from Syrian territory, comply with the 1974 agreement and respect Syria's sovereignty.
The two discussed the security situation in the province, UNDOF's mandate and the impact of Israeli actions on local residents, the governorate said.
Ahmad said documenting violations in accordance with UNDOF's mandate could help protect residents and reduce the impact on the local population.
The meeting comes amid continued Israeli military incursions into Quneitra, including raids, searches, detentions and the establishment of temporary checkpoints.
A UN report issued on September 23 documented continued violations of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, including Israeli military presence and activities in the area of separation.
Israeli forces remained at 11 positions on the Syrian side of the area of separation as of August 12, according to the report.
Established in 1974, UNDOF monitors the ceasefire and disengagement between Syrian and Israeli forces. Its mandate was extended in June through December 31, 2026.UNI XC AAB
