Telangana CM directs officials to ensure lasting infrastructure for Khelo India Games

Hyderabad, Nov 2 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday directed officials to ensure permanent, high-quality sports infrastructure and make comprehensive arrangements for the 8th Khelo India Youth Games, scheduled to be held in the State from December 11 to 22.
Reviewing the preparations at the MCRHRD Institute here, the Chief Minister asked officials to utilise the infrastructure being developed for the Invest Telangana Global Summit for the sporting event and coordinate arrangements between the two events.
He said the games were significant in the context of the State's new sports policy and the proposed Young India Physical Education and Sports University, and would help Telangana emerge as a national sports hub.
Revanth Reddy instructed officials to deploy Group-I level officers to monitor infrastructure development and arrangements from the beginning to the conclusion of the games. Trainee and Group-I officers in various districts would supervise competitions at the respective venues.
He also sought weekly progress reports and reviewed arrangements for athletes' food and accommodation.
Emphasising the need for lasting sports facilities, he said the infrastructure created for the games should continue to serve athletes even after the event.
He also called for measures to prevent the recurrence of problems relating to sports facilities developed during the previous government.
The Chief Minister advised officials to avoid unnecessary expenditure on the opening and closing ceremonies in view of El Nino conditions, while ensuring proper arrangements for participants.
More than 7,000 athletes and around 2,000 coaches and officials are expected to attend the games.
Competitions in 27 disciplines and one demonstration event will be held at 20 venues across six cities, including Hyderabad.
He also directed officials to take immediate steps to include 'Karrasamu', a traditional Telangana martial art, in the games under the host State's quota.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that Telangana athletes were undergoing training at Khelo India camps in various districts and briefed him on the progress of infrastructure works at the 20 venues.
Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Vakiti Srihari, Sports Authority Chairman Shivsena Reddy, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, Chief Minister's Advisor K Ramakrishna Rao, Special Chief Secretary (Sports) Vani Prasad and Sports Authority Managing Director Sonibala Devi attended the meeting.
