Islamabad, Mar 29 (UNI) Police successfully repelled a terrorist attack on a checkpost and killed three assailants in Dera Ghazi Khan district of Pakistan's eastern Punjab province, said a statement on Saturday.
A spokesperson of the Punjab Police said that 20 to 25 terrorists launched a coordinated assault on the Lakhani checkpost in the district bordering northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday night, attacking with mortars, rocket launchers, sniper rifles, and other heavy weapons.
"Despite the intensity of the attack, police forces, the Elite Force, and the Special Operations Unit (SOU) mounted a strong defense, forcing the attackers to retreat," said the spokesperson.
