Aiming to provide protected drinking water to 95.44 lakh families: Nimmala

Bhimavaram (Andhra), Mar 23 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Water Resources Development has asserted the government's commitment to provide protected drinking water to 99.44 lakh families under the Jal Jeevan mission in the state.
The Minister performed bhoomi pooja and unveiled a plaque for drinking water projects at Kaja village (West), Kaja (East) and Ootada villages in Yelamanchili Mandal on Sunday.
The protected drinking project will be carried out for Rs 2.31 crore. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to provide protected drinking water to each household under the Jal Jeevan Mission and vowed to bring the past glory to drinking water projects in the state.

Ramanaidu revealed that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ensured the Jal Jeevan scheme was extended till 2027 and also sought Rs 55,000 crore funds under the scheme to AP.

“The erstwhile YSRCP regime did not pay the State Government's share for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission works in AP. The funds meant for Jal Jeevan Mission programmes were diverted to other purposes. The YSRCP regime had spent a meager Rs 22.50 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission during the five years and the Jal Jeevan Mission expired in the State in 2024,” Minister Ramanaidu acknowledged.

The Minister observed the coalition Government in the state had paid the arrears of Rs 1674 crore that the previous government had to pay to the farmers, adding that the money for purchasing paddy produce was paid to the farmers within 48 hours during the Naidu headed Government.

The coalition Government has taken all steps to make agriculture profitable for the farmers by removing silt from canals and drains and carrying out maintenance work to provide irrigation water to their crops, the Irrigation Minister noted.

"Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has expedited the development works and at the same time implemented all the welfare schemes efficiently", Nimmala Ramanaidu added. Tahsildar Granthi Naga Venkata Pawan Kumar, TDP, BJP and JSP leaders were among those who attended the programme. UNI DP SSP
