Agartala, May 14 (UNI) Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath has alleged sabotage in the sudden disruption of power supply in a large area of Agartala early Tuesday, causing inconvenience to public on a summer night, and asked police to investigate the matter.

A total of 21 transformers across the city were found to have been tampered with.

He stated that an “organized vicious circle” is deliberately vandalizing power infrastructure to plunge key areas into darkness. The statement of the Minister has come after CCTV footage showed a man shutting down an electric transformer.

Receiving residents' complaints, Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) staff rushed to the site and found the main transmission lines were operational, but the entire locality remained without electricity.

TSECL officials said that investigations revealed a disturbing pattern: in several locations, transformer gangs had been removed, and in others, cutouts were taken out.

Nath raised a serious concern over the involvement of miscreants trying to destabilize electricity services in a hot and humid night, which agitated the urban residents.

According to TSECL, preliminary investigations indicate this was not an accident but a pre-planned operation by an organized group.

“The CCTV footage from Kamarpukur Par shows a man arriving on a scooter and disabling a transformer, shortly after which the area lost power. We are reviewing additional footage to identify those involved. An FIR has also been lodged at East Agartala Police Station,” officials added.
