Buenos Aires, Apr 7 (UNI) Boca Juniors moved to the top of its group in Argentina's Primera Division Apertura tournament with a 1-0 home win over Barracas Central.
Rodrigo Battaglia put his side ahead on Sunday with a first-time effort from the edge of the six-yard box after Lautaro Blanco's perfectly weighted cross from the left wing.
The Buenos Aires outfit defended resolutely thereafter to secure its eighth win of the campaign and move a point clear of second-placed Argentinos Juniors.
"We played well and we're happy to once again be leading the group," Boca manager Fernando Gago told reporters.
"After halftime we lacked the precision and calmness that we showed in the first half and that's something we know that we have to work on," the former Real Madrid midfielder added.
Elsewhere in Argentina's top flight on Sunday, Racing romped to a 4-1 home victory over Banfield, Union Santa Fe won 1-0 at home to Central Cordoba, Independiente drew 1-1 at Lanus, Argentinos Juniors cruised to a 4-1 home win over Defensa y Justicia and Racing won 4-1 at home to Banfield.
