Armed forces capable of giving fitting reply: DK Shivakumar

Bengaluru, May 10 (UNI) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday asserted that the Indian armed forces are fully capable of giving a "fitting reply" to Pakistan's attacks and said the entire country stands united behind the Central Government and its defence personnel.

Speaking to reporters here, Shivakumar said, "Indian armed forces are very capable in giving a fitting reply. The entire country has confidence that our soldiers — Army, Air Force, Navy — all of them are ready."

He said the people across India, including Karnataka, are rallying behind the armed forces and the Centre in a show of solidarity. "The entire country is supporting the Central Government for their action. We have shown our unity. Even in Karnataka, we have been supporting. We have done this Tiranga Yatra also in their support," the Deputy CM added.

The remarks came in the backdrop of escalating tensions following attacks launched by Pakistan and India's subsequent retaliatory action.

These remarks come in the wake of intensified military engagements between India and Pakistan. On May 7, India launched "Operation Sindoor," targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK. The operation involved precision strikes by Rafale jets equipped with SCALP missiles and AASM Hammer bombs, reportedly hitting nine sites, including Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Muzaffarabad.

In retaliation, Pakistan initiated "Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos," launching missile strikes against Indian military installations. The conflict has resulted in casualties on both sides.

The situation has drawn international concern, with calls for de-escalation from global leaders and organisations. As tensions continue, the Indian government has extended airport closures in several cities till May 14 and has implemented measures to curb provocative content on digital platforms.
