Itanagar, May 2 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt General (Retd) KT Parnaik reviewed the state’s internal security situation during a high-level meeting held at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar on Friday.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Mama Natung, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Vivek Kishore, and IGP (Law & Order) Chukhu Apa.
Key issues including the progress of border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border, enhancement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regime, and other critical internal security matters were discussed in the crucial meeting.
Highlighting the strategic and socio-economic importance of the Indo-Myanmar border fencing in Arunachal Pradesh, given its sensitive geopolitical location, the Governor underscored the need for robust fencing infrastructure with designated crossing points to curb illegal infiltration, arms smuggling, drug trafficking, and insurgent movement.
While emphasizing on facilitating the fencing project, he noted that fencing would serve as a visible demarcation of Indian territory, contributing to a secure and stable environment conducive to border area development.
The Governor also called for strengthening the ILP system, describing it as a vital legal and administrative safeguard for Arunachal Pradesh. He stated that the ILP is essential for regulating the entry of non-residents, thereby preserving the demographic balance and protecting the rights and cultural identity of indigenous communities.
He emphasized that a strict and efficient ILP mechanism enhances law enforcement and monitoring of visitors.
Additionally, the Governor discussed the state’s surrender policy and reviewed the overall security situation along with the Home Minister and senior police officials.
He commended the efforts of the state police force in maintaining law and order, and encouraged continued vigilance and proactive measures to ensure peace, security, and development in the region.
