Tripura LF delegation meets ADGP over attacks

Agartala, May 2 (UNI) The Left Front (LF) Tripura state committee on Friday called on Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Anurag Dhankar, demanding immediate action over the recent spate of alleged attacks on CPI-M workers and party offices across state.
Left Front Convener Manik Dey led the delegation that expressed deep concern over what they described as growing political violence under the BJP-led government.
“We questioned the ADGP—if no arrests are being made despite repeated attacks, does the Left Front not have the right to protest on the streets?” Dey told reporters after the meeting.
Dey alleged that law and order in Tripura had deteriorated significantly, with rising autocracy and administrative silence encouraging an atmosphere of anarchy. He claimed that MNREGA workers across several blocks were not receiving timely wages, prompting affiliated organizations to stage protests and gherao block offices across the state.
“The government keeps advertising job vacancies, but unemployed youths attending interviews are not being hired. As per the Assembly's own records, there are around 50,000 vacancies, yet these posts are being cancelled due to procedural delays,” he said.
The Left leader also raised alarm over increasing drug addiction, lack of basic amenities such as drinking water and electricity, and a rise in crimes against women. “No action is being taken. Even the newly constructed national highways are already in a state of disrepair due to substandard work,” he added.
Accusing the BJP of being directly involved in the attacks, Dey said, “This is nothing short of authoritarian rule. The silence of both the government and the police shows that they want to suppress the CPI(M) and prevent us from taking our issues to the streets.”
