Arunachal: NHM organises state-level convention for ASHAs

Itanagar, Mar 17 (UNI) The National Health Mission (NHM), Arunachal Pradesh on Monday organised a state-level convention for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) to recognise and celebrate their contributions to the state’s healthcare system.
The event, held at the State Golden Jubilee Banquet Hall here, brought together ASHAs from 26 districts, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and discussions on enhancing healthcare delivery system at the grassroots level.
During the convention, Health and Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge felicitated the best ASHA workers and facilitators from each district with mementos and certificates.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister highlighted the crucial role of ASHAs in mobilizing communities, promoting health awareness, and ensuring access to essential medical services. Despite challenges, he encouraged ASHAs to stay committed to their mission and continue their invaluable service.
Highlighting the significance of the event, the Minister said, “Such programmes are necessary to motivate the ASHA workers. We, at the government level, make schemes and programmes, and these will succeed only when the field-level staffs like ASHAs do their work.”
Wahge also called for collective efforts of all stakeholders to strengthen the state's healthcare delivery system, ensuring that more people benefit from medical facilities and services.
Health Commissioner Pawn Kumar Sain praised ASHAs as the backbone of India's healthcare system, particularly in rural and underserved areas. “Through their dedicated work, ASHA workers are instrumental in providing essential healthcare services, raising awareness, and driving public health initiatives at the grassroots level,” he added.
Echoing this sentiment, NHM Mission Director Marge Sora emphasized that ASHAs bridge the gap between healthcare facilities and communities and urged them to continue their dedicated service.
NHM Nodal Officer Dr Dimong Padung presented an overview of NHM, while Dr Gomi Basai introduced the new software platforms launched at TRIHMS—‘Scan & Find’ and ‘Scan & Feedback’—designed to improve hospital navigation and patient feedback mechanisms.
The convention also featured a skit performed by the ASHA (PM CP/ICR team) on community mobilization and door-to-door healthcare awareness. The event was also attended by DMOs, DRCHOs, and other key health officials, reaffirming NHM’s commitment to supporting ASHAs through continuous training and resources for a stronger healthcare system in Arunachal Pradesh.
