Arunachal: Police solve violent robbery case targeting senior citizen; 3 accused arrested

Itanagar, May 5 (UNI) In a significant breakthrough, the Arunachal Pradesh Police has solved a violent robbery and assault case with the arrest of three accused persons following a coordinated multi-state operation, a senior police officer said on Monday.
The case, registered as Chimpu PS Case No. 82/2024 under Sections 329(3), 309(6), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, involved the brutal assault of a senior citizen on duty as a night guard.
The incident occurred on the night of November 22, 2024, when Khyoda Taju, employed as a night watchman for the ACE Pipeline Project, was attacked by three unknown assailants. The attackers demanded access to the store he was guarding and, upon his resistance, they physically assaulted him before fleeing with his ATM card, cash, and a two-wheeler (scooty). The injured victim was immediately admitted to Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar for medical treatment.
The first lead in the case came when the stolen vehicle was recovered from Rajgarh, Assam. The perpetrators, however, had gone into hiding and frequently changed locations to evade arrest.
A Special Investigation Team led by Inspector N Nishant (Officer-in-Charge, Chimpu PS) and comprising SI Tate Nabam (Investigating Officer), head constables Rili Tabri and Harung Mije, and other personnel, was formed under the close supervision of SDPO Itanagar, Kengo Dirchi. Through meticulous technical surveillance and human intelligence, and with the active cooperation of Assam Police, the team made significant headway: on April 27, the prime accused Nanu Basumatary, resident of Anandpur, Rajgarh in Assam's Gohpur, was arrested from Gohpur Railway Station.
On April 29, second accused Rakesh Mili of Milon Nagar, Gohpur, was apprehended from Harmuti Railway Station, and on May 1, third accused Dharamsha Brahma alias Nana, a resident of Goroimari, Rajgarh, was arrested from Goroimari based on information provided by the other two.
All three arrested individuals have confessed to their involvement during preliminary interrogation, and further investigation is ongoing, Itanagar SP Rohit Rajbir Singh said.
SP Singh commended the team's efforts, stating: "This operation is a testament to the unwavering commitment of Arunachal Pradesh Police in protecting the vulnerable. Crimes against senior citizens are grave and unforgivable, and we will continue to pursue such offenders with full force of the law. Our personnel will remain vigilant and committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.”
This success sends a clear message that lawbreakers cannot escape justice, and Arunachal Pradesh Police will continue to operate with professionalism and diligence to maintain public trust and safety, he said.
