Arunachal: Two injured in machete attack, accused arrested after a brief chase

Itanagar, July 3 (UNI) In a shocking incident, a 19-year-old man armed with a machete allegedly attacked innocent bystanders this afternoon at Naharlagun’s C-Sector, leaving two civilians,
including a woman, injured.
The incident occurred around 1.15 pm and prompted a swift response from the Naharlagun Police.
Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Dr Nyelam Nega said that acting on verbal information, a police team led by Inspector K Dev, Officer-in-Charge of Naharlagun Police Station, quickly reached the scene. The accused, who attempted to flee, was apprehended after a brief chase at Pachin road.
The arrested individual has been identified as Daman Nima (19), son of Late Tada Nima, a resident
of Nima village under Daporijo Police Station in Upper Subansiri district.
He was booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) provisions in connection with two separate cases.
Based on a formal written complaint, the Naharlagun PS registered the cases under Sections 117(3)/109(2) of the BNS.
The two victims of the attack were identified as Nehru Murtem (57), and Hage Anku (54), D/o Late Hage Babing – both residents of C-Sector, Naharlagun. Both victims sustained injuries and are receiving medical attention.
The SP commended the prompt action of the police team and assured that a thorough investigation
is underway to ascertain the motive behind the unprovoked assault.
