Assault on NHAI official: BJP leader writes to right body

Shimla, July 3 (UNI) A complaint has been lodged with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) about the brutal assault on National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officer Achal Jindal in Shimla.
The alleged incident, involving Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh and his supporters, has now drawn the attention of BJP leader and former MP Avinash Rai Khanna.
In a letter dated July 3, addressed to the NHRC chairman, Khanna has sought urgent intervention into what he termed a clear violation of human rights.
He enclosed a request letter from Narendra Singh, president of the NHAI Engineers Association, detailing the attack and expressing serious concern over the alleged inaction by the state authorities.
Khanna, a former Rajya Sabha chief whip and BJP national vice president, emphasized that the matter was self-explanatory and amounted to gross negligence by public servants, endangering the morale and safety of government officers.
"Facts demonstrate a clear-cut violation of human rights due to non-action on the part of the public servant," Khanna wrote, urging the commission to take cognizance and ensure accountability.
He called on the NHRC to direct the government to uphold public safety and ensure the rule of law. The letter also stressed the importance of protecting professionals like NHAI officers from political interference and violence.
