Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed bags unwanted record in List A cricket

Dhaka, Mar 19 (UNI) Bangladesh’s only player in the A plus category of the national central contracts, Taskin Ahmed, registered an unwanted record Tuesday.
The right-arm fast bowler posted the most expensive figure by a Bangladeshi in List A cricket when he leaked 107 runs from his quota of 10 overs featuring for Mohammedan Sporting Club against Gazi Group Cricketers in the Dhaka Premier League in Savar, according to The Dhaka Tribune report.
Thanks to the generosity of the Mohammedan bowlers that also included Saifuddin and Mehedi Hasan Miraz giving away 77 and 66 runs, respectively, from their quota of 10 overs each, Gazi Group piled up 336 for the loss of five wickets in 50 overs.
Player of the match and Gazi Group captain Anamul Haque starred for his side with an unbeaten 143-ball 149, studded with a dozen fours and four sixes.
In pursuit of 337, Mohammedan were all out for 271 in 48.1 overs.
The 29-year-old Taskin did pick up three wickets, but this will be of little consolation to him after he broke the previous record of 104 runs conceded by Bangladeshi bowlers in List A cricket.
Paceman Shahadat Hossain previously gave away this many runs while playing for Bangladesh A against South Africa A in Benoni in 2010, while Gazi Tyres Cricket Academy’s pacer Iqbal Hossain also conceded the same amount against Abahani Limited in the DPL in 2024.
In all List A cricket combined, the Netherlands’ Bas de Leede has leaked the most – 2/115 against Australia in the 2023 Cricket World Cup in Delhi.
Taskin’s 3/107 is at No 11 in this list.
