Bank cashier sentenced to 2 years imprisonment for misappropriating account holders’ money

Kendrapara, Apr 12 (UNI) A cashier of the Indian Bank, Singiri Bazar branch, was convicted and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Aul for misappropriating lakhs of rupees of account holders.
The JMFC Court of Aul, on Friday, sentenced Abhiram Mallick, the cashier, for embezzling Rs 11.15 lakh from the bank accounts of Sashikala, the wife of Anjan Kumar Mahalik of Singiri village.
Anjan, who works in Dubai, instructed his wife to complain to the Aul police station. Based on the FIR, Aul police registered a case and arrested the bank cashier.
While delivering the judgment, JMFC Deban Satyadarshi Nanda convicted Abhiram Mallick and sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment along with a fine.
Sources stated that approximately Rs 85 lakh had allegedly been withdrawn from the accounts of at least six account holders of the Singiri Bazar branch without their knowledge.
One account holder, Surendra Nayak, alleged that he had opened two bank accounts in his name, and also one account each for his wife, Saraswati Nayak, his elder son, Suvam, and younger son, Satyam, at the Indian Bank’s Singiri branch.
To his shock, nearly Rs 70 lakh deposited in these five family accounts was not reflected, as the money had allegedly been withdrawn without their knowledge.
Another senior citizen, Sadananda Prusty, also became a victim, as his fixed deposit of Rs 4 lakh, kept at the Singiri branch, was allegedly withdrawn without his consent.
