Banning protests in Osmania University undemocratic: Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad, Mar 18 (UNI) Union Minister and Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy has stated that issuing orders to ban protests at Osmania University (OU), known as the birthplace of various movements, is undemocratic.

Reddy emphasised that OU students have played a key role in numerous struggles related to students' rights and the Telangana movement. Expressing his views on X, he asserted that protesting is a fundamental right of citizens in a democratic India.

He added that students have the right to express their concerns to the Osmania University management, which has failed to provide even basic education and residential facilities.

Reddy criticised the suppression of students under police guard, stating that Telangana society will not accept such actions. He warned that the people of Telangana, who confined former Chief Minister KCR to a farmhouse for similar actions, would react similarly if the Congress government continues to act in an authoritarian manner.

He demanded the immediate withdrawal of the circular that restricts students' rights, urging the state government to abandon its oppressive stance. He also called for an end to the alleged harassment of students and student union leaders, urging the withdrawal of police detentions.

The Bharatiya Janata Party expressed its full support for the Osmania University students in this regard.
