Bengal's pvt bus operators suspend proposed stir

Kolkata, May 21 (UNI) Private bus operators across West Bengal have suspended their proposed 3-day strike from Thursday on various demands after a meeting with the transport secretary and Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma.
The bus operators had planned a three-day statewide strike from Thursday due to some unresolved grievances with the government, including that of 'targeted levying' of fines by the Traffic Police.
Transport department secretary Soumitra Mohan, who also held a meeting on Tuesday and was present in the day's meeting at Lalbazar, urged the bus and minibus owners to reconsider their decision.
The private bus operators said while they suspended the proposed strike until September 1, the government must consider their demands, including the alleged harassment from the Traffic Police and imposition of a fine of Rs 500 for alleged violation of pollution rules. They also demanded punitive action against erring police personnel.
