Patna, Apr 05 (UNI) Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Saturday strongly supported the Waqf Board Amendment Bill, saying it was needed for long.
Khan told media persons here that the Waqf Board had huge properties in Bihar and other parts of the country, but welfare schemes being carried out for poor Muslims were not visible.
Those managing Waqf Board properties were indulging in legal disputes, rather than assisting those who needed it, he pointed out.
" When I was Minister in Uttar Pradesh, the Waqf Board department was allotted to me and I know its shortcomings, " the Governor said adding that as MP, he had asked in Parliament whether any step was taken by the Waqf Board to provide financial assistance to Muslim Widows, -- the reply was negative.
Amendments made in the Waqf Board would immensely help in providing much-needed help to poor Muslims and other deprived, he remarked.
