BJP alleges Faqir Khan’s death as murder, demands probe

Srinagar, Mar 22 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday raised serious concerns over the mysterious death of its leader and former MLA Faqir Mohammad Khan, alleging it as murder.

BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur dismissed the claim that Khan died by suicide, claiming that he was killed as part of a conspiracy.

“The condition in which he died is a suspicious matter. We have a doubt it is not a suicide and was killed under a conspiracy,“ Thakur told reporters after visiting Kangan in Ganderbal district to offer condolences to Khan’s family.

On Thursday, senior BJP leader Khan was found dead with a fatal gunshot wound at his high-security home in Srinagar. Hours after the incident, Police said that initial findings suggested the death appears to be a case of suicide.
Thakur, however, pointed to inconsistencies at the scene, questioning the positioning of the rifle found between Khan’s legs.
"If he had fired the shot himself, the bullet trajectory would have been different. The rifle is longer than the distance from where he was shot," he said.

The BJP spokesperson further emphasised the need for a fair and transparent probe.

"Who was present at the time? Who did this? The police have issued a statement, but we request the DGP, IG, and SSP Srinagar to reach to the bottom of the case and uncover the truth as we think that this is not suicide, it is a murder," he added.

Thakur said former MLA Khan was the top leader of the BJP and a voice of the poor and the common people.

“Who has a role in suppressing this voice? The police should form a SIT (Special Investigation Team) to investigate.. This is our demand because a leader has been separated from us,” he said, adding the culprits be identified and held accountable.
The BJP leader said Khan showed no signs of distress or depression when they met just a day before his death.
“He was not tense; there was no indication of any such condition,” Thakur said.
