BJP flays Kharge, defends Modi's leadership in Op Sindoor

Bengaluru, May 13 (UNI) Reacting to the recent criticism by Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge over the Centre's announcement of a pause to military operations, Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa on Tuesday accused the Congress of undermining India's strategic victory and military success, while also defending Prime Minister Narendra Modi's firm leadership in the matter.
Kharge had called the 'ceasefire' decision post-operation concerning, questioning who authorised it and demanding a special session of Parliament to explain the move. He also criticised the involvement of external powers, particularly the US, in pushing for the 'ceasefire', and accused the Modi government of lacking transparency.
In response, Vijayendra strongly rebuked Kharge’s comments, stating that such statements, alongside the Congress party's repeated undermining of India's military actions, only served to embolden Pakistan's narrative against India.
"Kharge's criticism comes at a time when India's armed forces achieved a historic success with Operation Sindoor, eliminating high-value terrorists and crippling Pakistan's military infrastructure. To now question this success is not just irresponsible, it's damaging to national security," Vijayendra said.
He slammed Kharge for raising questions on the 'ceasefire' without understanding the broader strategic context. "The decision to announce a 'ceasefire' was a result of careful deliberation by our leadership, not one made under external pressure, as some have suggested. The Modi government’s decision to defend national interests, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, is a clear sign of leadership that prioritises India’s strategic concerns,” he added.
Vijayendra also accused Kharge of playing politics with national security. "It’s ironic that while the Congress continues to criticise our armed forces, their leaders have found themselves praised in Pakistani media for opposing India's military actions. We have seen such political opportunism before, but it’s time Congress realised the magnitude of our achievements and the bravery of our soldiers,” he said.
Kharge had also questioned India’s foreign policy, pointing out the IMF's loan to Pakistan and the lack of strong condemnation from the US. In response, Vijayendra stated that while the Congress appeared to align itself with Pakistan's narrative, the BJP’s approach was clear and unwavering.
"Under PM Modi, India has never shied away from taking strong actions against terror, as Operation Sindoor proves. Congress should rise above partisan politics and recognise the bravery of our soldiers,” he added.
The BJP leader said by asserting that Prime Minister Modi’s leadership in handling national security challenges had been unparalleled, contrasting it with the lack of decisive action during the 26/11 attacks.
"Now, more than ever, it’s crucial that the country stands united behind our forces and leadership. The political games being played by the Congress only serve to weaken our collective strength," Vijayendra said.
