Miss World contestants to explore Warangal’s glorious Kakatiya heritage

Hyderabad, May 13 (UNI) Warangal, the ancient capital of the Kakatiya dynasty and a living embodiment of Telangana’s rich culture and architectural legacy, is preparing to welcome global beauty with open arms.

On Wednesday, contestants of the Miss World 2025 pageant will visit some of the region’s most iconic heritage sites, shining an international spotlight on the artistic and historical grandeur of Telangana.

A total of 57 Miss World contestants will explore the architectural marvels of Warangal and Mulugu districts in two separate groups. One group of 35 will visit the Thousand Pillar Temple and Warangal Fort, including the iconic Kakatiya Kirti Thoranam, now proudly serving as the state emblem of Telangana.

The second group of 22 will head directly to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ramappa Temple in Mulugu, where they will also enjoy a traditional Perini dance performance, symbolising Telangana’s cultural depth.

Built in the 12th and 13th centuries by the Kakatiya kings, the Thousand Pillar Temple, Warangal Fort, and Ramappa Temple are considered masterpieces of Indian temple architecture. The Thousand Pillar Temple, constructed in 1163 AD under King Rudradeva, is a Trikutalayam dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, and Surya, showcasing the Chalukyan influence and the intricate stone artistry of the Kakatiyas. The temple, recently restored and reopened, continues to captivate historians and tourists alike.

The Warangal Fort, constructed by successive Kakatiya rulers between the 8th and 13th centuries, is another enduring symbol of Telangana’s regal past. Its grand stone gateways (Kirti Toranams), circular defence walls, and the Swayambhu Shiva Temple reflect an era of architectural brilliance. The fort also serves as the venue for cultural initiatives like the ‘Kakatiya Vaibhava Saptaham,’ celebrating Telangana's heritage.

Ramappa Temple, also known as the Ramalingeswara Temple, is located in Palampet village of Mulugu district. Built in the 13th century by General Recharla Rudrudu under King Ganapati Deva’s reign, this temple is uniquely named after its sculptor—a rarity in temple history. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021, the temple exemplifies the Kakatiya architectural ethos, from its floating bricks to the finely carved walls and star-shaped platform.

To ensure a smooth and memorable visit, district administrations have made elaborate arrangements. Strict security measures are in place, and cultural showcases like traditional dances and local cuisine are being organised to offer the visitors an immersive experience, official sources said on Tuesday.

The Telangana government, under the theme "Telangana Zaroor Aana" (Do Visit Telangana), is seizing this opportunity to present Warangal as a global tourism destination. The visit is expected to significantly enhance the state’s visibility on the world map, especially as the Miss World contestants share their experiences across global media and platforms.

As the eyes of the world turn to Warangal, the people of the region are filled with pride and anticipation, ready to witness a historic cultural exchange where heritage meets international elegance.
