BJP govt ruined health services in UP: Akhilesh

Lucknow, May 13 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has ruined the health services of Uttar Pradesh.

In a statement issued here, Akhilesh said that negligence in hospitals in UP is at its peak. "The poor are not getting adequate medicines and treatment. Only formalities are being done in the name of treatment. Medical colleges lack facilities like adequate medicines, tests, professors, doctors, nurses, and technical staff for treatment. Big hospitals are dominated by middlemen. Commission and corruption in the purchase and sale of medicines and machines have crippled the entire system," he said.

He said that the government has nothing except rhetoric. "The BJP government did not build any district level hospital in its entire tenure. It is not providing facilities in the hospitals built during the Samajwadi government. The condition of PHCs and CHCs located in the state is very bad. Patients are afraid of getting treatment," he said.

He said, 'In many districts, incomplete buildings are standing in the name of medical colleges. There is no facility of even an ambulance and stretcher for the patients there. Fire incidents in hospitals are happening due to negligence. The lives of patients are at risk. No safety standards are being followed."

The party chief said that the SP government had made special arrangements for the treatment of serious diseases like heart, liver, kidney, and cancer. "The BJP has turned all the arrangements of the cancer hospital into chaos. The government is not giving the required budget to the medical colleges. There is a huge shortage of specialist doctors in medical colleges," he said.

He said, "Many good doctors have resigned and left. District hospitals and medical colleges have become mere referral centres. Due to the poor condition of government hospitals, patients are forced to go to private hospitals where they are being looted in the name of treatment. The health system is not going to improve based on false advertisements and claims."
