BJP trying to weaken constitution of Ambedkar : Tejashwi

Patna, Apr 14 (UNI) Senior RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Monday alleged that the BJP was trying to weaken the constitution prepared by Bheem Rao Ambedkar, giving rights to the backwards, oppressed and deprived.
Yadav, also the leader of the opposition in the Bihar assembly, while addressing a function organised on the birth anniversary of Ambedkar, said that the BJP had nothing to do with the principles and ideology of Ambedkar. Only due to political compulsion, the BJP was unwillingly celebrating the birth anniversary of Ambedkar, he alleged.
" When Grand Alliance government was in power in Bihar, provision for 65 percent reservation in government services was made for Backwards, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes ", RJD leader said adding that proposal was sent to Centre for insulating the 65 percent reservation provision by placing it in 9th schedule of the constitution. Due to its anti reservation mindset, Narendra Modi government deliberately ignored the proposal to place 65 percent reservation provision in 9th schedule of the constitution, he alleged.
Yadav said that Court had stayed the 65 percent reservation made by Grand Alliance government for Backwards, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Due to anti reservation mindset of BJP, these sections of society were deprived from increased 16 percent reservation for them in government services, he added. Only 49 percent reservation was being given to them at present which was increased to 65 percent, later stayed by the Court, he further added.
