Agartala, Mar 17 (UNI) In an anti-smuggling drive on Sunday, BSF recovered 187 used mobile phones worth Rs 42 lakh from the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Sepahijala district but failed to arrest anybody.
BSF sources said that in the late afternoon, BSF jawans on duty noticed suspicious movement of five to six miscreants along the border in the Matinagar area of Sonamura. When BSF troops challenged them, the miscreants fled away.
Later, during the search, the BSF jawans found a few bags abandoned in the jungle and recovered 187 used mobile phones of various brands, including a few iPhones, which were later handed over to the customs authorities.
According to the report, the phones were stolen from different parts of the state by various gangs that had attempted to smuggle them out to Bangladesh, which were reported to be refurbished and transported back to bordering areas of Tripura, West Bengal, and Assam.
