Kolkata, Apr 12 (UNI) Calcutta High Court on Saturday directed deployment of the Central Armed Forces in West Bengal's trouble-torn Murshidabad district to assist the state administration to restore peace and normalcy, court sources said.
A special division bench, headed by Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Raja Basu Chowdhury, after hearing both counsels ordered deployment of the Central Armed Forces for safeguarding the common people.
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari had moved the petition to Chief Justice T. S. Sivagnanam for an urgent hearing in the wake of raging violence in Murshidabad and elsewhere. The matter was referred to the division bench of Justice Soumen Sen.
Advocate Tarunjyoti Tiwari appeared for Adhikari and TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee appeared for the state.
The violence, brewing since April 8 after the Waqf (amendment) Act passed in both houses of Parliament, took a toll of three persons since Friday evening.
While a 70-year-old father and his 40-year-old son were found lynched in their home at Shamshergunge, another youth, who was shot at yesterday at Sajurmore in Suti, succumbed in a hospital on Saturday, official sources said.
Both father and son duo were found lying inside their home and declared brought dead at a nearby hospital. Their family alleged that miscreants looted their house and stabbed the two before leaving.
Besides three dead, as many persons were admitted into the hospital.
West Bengal DGP Rajiv Kumar on Saturday rushed to Murshidabad to take stock of the situation.
He also warned against the rumour mongers and stern action against the people, who indulge in violence.
Suvendu Adhikari commenting on Court directive said it was victory for the people, who suffered in the attacks.
He alleged despite seven companies of BSF were deployed at Dhulian on Friday, the District Magistrate kept them inactive
