Cal High Court lifts stay order on appointment of civil judges in lower courts in West Bengal

Kolkata, Mar 18 (UNI) The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday lifted its earlier stay order on the appointment of the Judges in the lower courts in the state and ruled that the West Bengal Judicial Services (WBJS) examination conducted in 2022 is valid.
Justice Arindam Mukherjee dismissed the multiple pleas which had challenged the conduct and process of examination in 2022.
Sources said the lifting of the stay order by the High Court paved the way for the appointment of civil judges in the state's lower courts.
In 2022, the appointment process of 29 judges for the lower courts across the state began. But a candidate challenged the appointments in the Calcutta High Court with a plea that the process was not followed for OBC candidates.
The Calcutta High Court in 2024 stayed the appointment of the judges in the lower courts, which was lifted today by the Single Judge bench, the sources added.
